pageant
another utterly obscure relic dug out of the box. no idea who this is, what they were about, or anything useful at all. just two songs of chunky, riffy emo that is maybe in the ballpark of stuff like a poppier current. out on romance records from connecticut but no date given. hey it's good, no idea when i got it or anything. i guess it was from the time i was relentlessly mining for emo. there's not even a copy for sale on discogs. doesn't get much more obscuremo than this.

greenella
who knows what this is, just found it when sorting out my singles now i finally have a reasonable storage system sorted having moved house a year ago. two tracks of riffy melodic emo punk from texas, out on rise records back in 1994. short fuse backed with gift of not giving. it's pretty decent although not going to blow your mind. have a go.

pawn
stumbled on this whilst going through stuff to list on discogs, can't have listened to it in over 10 years. pawn released a 7" and an lp, this song is the first track on the album "brickredeyes" (archibald records 1994), it's kind of a bouncy early 90s pop punk / emo mash up. i love the bass on this. the album is pretty solid, has a nice drive and pace to it. short little outbursts. kind of like a punkier early evergreen. worth checking out if this is your arena.

the fountain pen conspiracy
ok one more whilst we're here.
i have absolutely no idea who this band is or why i have it. it's not even on discogs. it's from 1996, the address is sioux falls south dakota. people in the band are joseph theon, rebecca hanten, micheal meyer and brian bieber, so they can all google themselves now and find this.
the music is pretty typical mid 90s screamy emo. you got the basic, harsh, trebly recording, and multiple people going "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIII" over fast, sorta melodic but messy hardcore. i always preferred this sort of screamo to what happened to it in the mid to late 2000s when it got all polished and post rock.
lyrics are the typical emo mix of personal and political. there's a song about homelessness and one about capitalism, and one i think is about sexual assault.

jeromes dream
anyone ever come across this? i'm assuming it's a boot or just some early release that's been taped. it's on a shop bought cassette. can't see it on discogs. can't recall where i got it. don't recognise the music but it's been years since i listened to them. no song titles.
two songs. sounds more emo than i remember them, but still with those daft vocals. have a listen and see what you think.

voglio capirlo
ok i moved house and now have my tape deck and a very terrible record player hooked up to my pc. so this blog might see some action, especially once i get the 7" singles unboxed and on shelves and the record player upgraded.
here's the voglio capirlo 4 song tape from 1999. i don't know much about the band, i think i first heard them on this comp and then at some point picked this tape up. there's no reference in my gmail account so it must have been a long time ago. this stuff is pretty blown out, frantic emo. definitely for those that fuck with plunger. a little moss icon in the mix. just yelling and a recording that maxed out audacity in the red for pretty much every second. the inlay has lyrics and super earnest song explanations.

the fauves
how about a bit of obscuremo to ease you into the weekend. i won't write a whole bunch of junk because there is some info here from someone who knows what they are talking about. i picked up a split 7" they did with herr k quite some time ago, and never tracked down anything else by them. turns out they did a 6 song album (downloadable at the previous link). scanning over the rest of the album, there's nothing on it as good as the song coming up, or the song on the split 7", but hey, maybe you want to check it out.

the interstate ten
here's a band that had slipped my mind, until my good friend j.b. pointed out one of their songs was on youtube. a cursory scan through my mp3mo collection indicated i had both albums in the easily uploadable format. what joy! i've owned "Silverlakecreekbelowforestprimevil" for some time. it's an under-rated slice of emo on wrenched records. would hazard a guess that whoever ran that label still has 100 copies under their bed. it's not the most consistent of records but there are some prime obscuremo cuts on there that you need to have heard. i also appear to have a self titled album, which discogs indicates is a year older. i flicked through a couple of songs and they were not something i recalled, and not particularly great either.
this, "black die no. 5", however, is superb. totally, utterly, superb. the kind of band you wish would suddenly pop up again but probably never will. drifty, dreamy, waltzy, melancholy, thoughtful, delightful, yet with that little bit of heft and drive that stops it from being inconsequential fluff. pretty much my ideal music.

the 8 bit revival
this is the lead track from a 4 track EP called "up and atom", my favourite song on there. it's bouncy braid / promise ring worship from 2003 or so, back when no-one was going near this style of music. here is my review from the time. the band made a few records post this, but never quite hit the heights that they do here for my money. lovely stuff.

hush harbor
someone beat me to the punch here. but what a punch.
there's more than this. if i can track the other bits down in mp3 form, i'll add them.

the brighest comet II
so i was just scrolling through a bunch of old posts on here, and there was a deleted comet made by "andi camp" on a man i fell in love with post. that was odd, i thought. i clicked on it, and it took me to a blog with 2 posts made in 2013, but it definitely was by andi camp who was in ribbon fix, and things. i wondered what andi had wanted to say about man i fell in love with, and then what had prompted her to delete it. and then i wondered about the brightest comet. there was one video on youtube already, winter time, so i uploaded "three".
and then i uploaded "perfect"
and here's "girth" that i found online
hopefully andi is still out there making music.

three minute movie
got one for you. only a year late. three minute movie is a snuffy smile band from ages ago. they had a couple of albums then disappeared. they seem to be about again though, playing shows, probably not sounding a whole lot like they used to. their cd "rhythm of wind and water" was rather braid-esque, whilst "the film reflects a dramatic city" was more superchunk. here's the lead track from "rhythm..." and i hope you agree that it is quite the belter.

notaword
it's been a very very long time since i listened to notaword, but this song is a total winner. clear get up kids / jimmy eat world intentions, but what a perfect emo pop song. no-one does this kind of thing any more.

sea of cortez
some minor obscuremo band that gained minor notoriety with 4 people by being on the same label as ambassador 990 and then that label got sick of emo and the sea of cortez lp disappeared forever. at least, that's how i remember it, it was a long time ago and my mind is clouded. here's a song off some comp cd called "libations unlimited: pheonix 97-99". this is a cool song either way.
made for tv movie
i know some of you like the words that go with the music, but i really have no clue why i even have this cd. i always loved this song though. if you like chune / hum, then this is well up in your zone.
